CRG has developed an optical surface replication process for manufacturing large, lightweight optics.

The majority of the cost in conventional lightweight mirrors is related to the time required to grind and polish the mirror to the final figure. Replication is one method being investigated to reduce the manufacturing cost of high-performance mirrors.

Our goal was to develop the replication technology necessary to reduce mirror cost from $1-5 million per square meter down to $100,000 or less per square meter.
