 Protective Hard
Coat Material
What Makes our Hard Coat Special?
CRG’s protective hard coat is an organic polymer-based composite
that protects electronics from harsh environments. It has exceptional
hardness and toughness properties with the added benefit of easy,
low-temperature (<180°C/356°F) applications such as
epoxy and urethane organic potting compounds. This feature, along
with its thermal conductivity (approximately 3.5 W/mK) provides
a protection solution for a broad range of nontraditional applications.
The hard coat material also offers protection against many solvents
as well as acids and bases.
This robust hard coat material can
be applied to a wide range of electronic or mechanical parts
and would enable better protection of many commercial and
military electronics. The effort required for elaborate housing
design to minimize environmental exposure would be greatly
reduced, thus saving time and money. In most applications
the typical metal enclosure could be eliminated and replaced
with CRG’s hard coat material. This would provide protection
against harsh environmental effects such as solvents, vibration,
rough handling, and thermal cycling.
Applications
Possible applications of this hard coat include
electronics coating, high-temperature packaging, thermally
conductive packaging, and thermal interface management. Protection
of electronic and electrical components in the mining, transportation,
chemical, and oil and gas industries requires a robust, abrasion
resistant, chemically resistant and cost-effective packaging
solution, which the CRG hard coat system can provide. The
CRG hard coat system can be applied by injection molding,
casting and flow-casting, making it easy to integrate
into any process.
The coating has a good level of chemical resistance
and is also resistant to thermal shock. The hard coat is thermally
conductive (less than metals, more than neat polymers), so
heat buildup on components can be avoided.
CRG can provide this material and will assist in
product application.
