Composite Repair Isolation System to be Included in Boeing Repair Manual
The deployable isolation repair technology (DIRT) Bag™ system that came out of an SBIR program is now being used by aerospace repair depots to help contain debris from composite repair. It will soon be shown in the Boeing 787 Structural Repair Manual as one option for meeting OSHA standards for containing repair debris.
By employing a hand port design from previous
work with medical devices, the DIRT
Bag™ offers technicians easy access to the repair
site and an unobstructed view of the area. The bag adheres to unusually shaped surfaces and allows
on-site composite repair. It supplies a reliable, tight seal around the repair site that keeps contaminants out and debris generated from the repair within the contained area, protecting the repair site, the surrounding environment and equipment, and the repair technician. The system is collapsible and easy to store,
making it ideal for use in the field. This product can decrease costs through reducing reworking and maximizing
flight readiness since it eliminates the need for a hangar or
clean room. (3-22-11)
