CRG Sponsors Pumpkin Chucking Team — Advantic™ Used in Catapult
Construction
A local pumpkin chucking team, ETHOS, which stands for Experimental Torsion Hybrid Onager System, used CRG-engineered material in the construction of their pumpkin catapult. This fall they competed in a small fundraiser event locally at Wright Patterson AFB and also at the pumpkin chucking World Championships in Bridgeville, Delaware. At the Wright-Patterson contest, the team won the Class A division and raised $500 for charity. At the World Championships, they won 1st place in the Torsion Catapult division with a shot of 2087 feet.
The team finished their new catapult machine
(The Phoenix) in September. They used CRG's Advantic engineered
syntactic foam in the machine arm root and tip because the
material is lightweight, strong, and machinable. The Science
Channel extensively covered the World Championship contest
and interviewed the winning team, and footage will air on
their two-hour Thanksgiving Day special at 8 p.m. Eastern
Time. ETHOS team leader David Mollenhauer remarked, "On
behalf of Team ETHOS I want to thank you again for your support.
We would not have been able to accomplish this project without
your support!" (11-18-09)
