History and Culture
Founding
CRG was founded in April 1997 by
Dr. Patrick J. Hood as a for-profit
research and development company.
The closely held corporation is
dedicated to providing high-quality
R&D services that lead to breakthrough
technologies. Since its founding,
CRG has experienced rapid growth
and developed a broad base of experience
by working on a wide array of programs
and by hiring committed employees
with diverse professional experience.
Company
Growth
CRG team currently has over 115
employees and occupies office and laboratory
space in Russ Research Park and
Miami Valley Research Park in Dayton as well as a large manufacturing production
facility in Xenia, Ohio. Annual
sales have increased exponentially,
and the government customer base
has grown substantially. CRG's continued
expansion has provided innovative
research services for the commercial
sector, including numerous Global
500 companies and many small- to
mid-sized businesses representing
a large cross-section of industry.
CRG's government customers include
most major government agencies.
For four consecutive years, CRG has
had the honor of being on the Inc. 5000 list, a ranking of the
nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents
the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the
economy—America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs.
The list features young companies that are achieving success through
a wide variety of unprecedented business models.
Corporate Culture
CRG's corporate culture is one of openness, honesty, cooperation,
and hard work. These deeply rooted values, combined with a
decentralized management system, allow for unprecedented employee
empowerment and an atmosphere of mentorship rather than hierarchy.
To complement and support these attributes, CRG seeks team-oriented,
selfless individuals with diverse backgrounds, training, and
personalities. This unique blend of values, management style,
and people has fueled double-digit corporate growth in every
year of operation.
Task Teams
When the number of people increases in an organization, members
often lose connectivity with one another and can be distracted
from their mission. It is well established within organizational
behavior research that smaller groups of people can make better
decisions more efficiently and quickly than larger groups. That's
why CRG conciously moved to a smaller group structure to develop
effective, efficient, and agile decision-making teams to better
enable long-term personal and corporate growth. These teams consist
of small, self-managed groups of 5 to 9 people defined by research
projects and area of function.
These high-trust teams support CRG's
mission and core values, providing visibility and accountability
as well as giving individuals an opportunity to contribute to
problem solving and new business development. Teams are responsible
for maintaining high-quality customer support, solving problems
creatively, reducing costs and improving efficiency, and growing
in their areas of expertise. They also cross-fertilize with other
teams to exchange lessons learned and lend expertise to get the
job done.
Spin-off
Business
In 2004, CRG initiated its first
spin-off company, CRG
Industries, LLC, a high-tech
manufacturing supply company dedicated
to supplying high-performance materials
and emerging technologies to government
and industry. CRG Industries
manufactures state-of-the-art materials
and systems engineered and leveraged
by CRG's multimillion-dollar research
and development programs. In addition,
the company manufactures and distributes
materials and systems patented by
others and licensed by CRG. These
products have a wealth of uses and
applications in commercial, medical,
industrial, and military fields.
