Facilities & Laboratories
Cornerstone
Research Group operates from over 100,000 sq. ft. of laboratory
and office space at Russ Business Park and Miami Valley Research Park in Beavercreek, Ohio. Additionally, it operates a manufacturing
facility in Xenia Industrial Park in Xenia, Ohio.
CRG conducts research and development in a wide
variety of laboratory spaces that include several composites labs,
chemistry labs, a syntactic processing lab, several characterization
areas, an electronics and systems engineering lab, and a manufacturing
technology lab. In addition, a 168-sq. ft., Class 10,000 clean
room provides a dust-free environment for processing and assembling
optical and other sensitive components as well as conducting nanotechnology
research.
Chemistry Labs
The large chemical processing areas consist of lab benches equipped
with vacuum stations, isotherm ovens, UV curing systems, and
chemistry supplies supporting research and development of advanced
materials and processes and polymer synthesis. The labs also
features an extensive suite of characterization equipment. |
|
Electronics and Systems
Engineering Lab
The systems engineering lab supports systems development and
prototype design. An integrated electronics work area has the
basic tools necessary for the design and development of custom
electronics for devices, processing systems, and special characterization
needs.
|
Manufacturing Technology Lab
Designed for developing production techniques that exploit CRG's
new advanced materials and processes, the manufacturing technology
area provides custom and industrial fabrication equipment, including
an automated filament winder, a large autoclave, a low-shear
mixer, welding equipment, a rotomolding machine, a fiber braider,
and a composite lay-up area. |
|
Composites Labs
The composite development areas provide equipment and supplies
for fabricating composite components using a broad array of
standard and specialty reinforcements, resins, and processes.
CRG also creates specialized molds for both hand layup and vacuum-assisted
resin transfer molding. The labs include a wide range of ovens
and other curing areas. |
Optics Lab
In support of advanced systems and technology areas, including
liquid crystal research, the optics lab provides state-of-the-art
equipment such as a white-light surface mapping microscope,
an interferometer, a fiberoptic VIS/NIR spectrometer, an ultraviolet/visible
spectrometer, and a dilatometer. |
|
Syntactic Processing Lab
Designed for optimum control and processing of material components
and mixing and processing syntactic to exacting standards, the
syntactic lab is equipped to handle small to large runs of syntactic
products. The lab is used to refine mixing and processing methods
to produce low voids and homogenous output, regardless of target
density. |
